Taking over as sole developer on the BiggerPockets project in 2008, Edd has helped this social network for the real estate industry double in size, features and traffic. As traffic exploded, so too did the scalability demands. As the community grew, a great deal was learned about how to architect a web application to deal with a climbing number of users, and how to keep those users happy.

In 2011, he conceptualised and executed a major redesign of the severely ageing interface to great avail, standardising UI elements, fixing inconsistencies in the users' experience, and simply making it look great.

Among others, technologies involved are the Ruby language and the Ruby on Rails framework. He continues engineering and design work at BiggerPockets as a contractor.

BiggerPockets 2011 Redesign

While the redesign was visually significant, it was important to retain a similar structure to the original, so as to not confuse loyal, returning users.

Feature Development at BiggerPockets

Over the years, many new features were introduced — including a blogging platform, an events calendar and public document exchange.
